Melatonin is an indole-like hormone that is secreted by the pineal gland in humans and many species of animals.
Pentazocine is the precursor of melatonin, which is produced in the body as follows: first, tryptophan is hydroxylated to 5-HTP, then decarboxylated to 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HT), then acetylated to N-acetyl-5-hydroxytryptophan, and finally methylated to N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptophan.
5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) in the supplement is extracted from the seeds of Ghana monocotyledonous plant. The seeds of this plant from Central and West Africa contain 20% 5-HTP by weight.
The tryptophan from the diet or supplements is broken down in the liver into 5-HTP and other metabolites. 5-HTP travels in the bloodstream to the brain. The 5-HTP then crosses a barrier that separates the blood from the brain. Once in the brain 5-HTP is converted to serotonin. Serotonin (5-color) neurotransmitter affects cognitive functions such as mood, memory, sleep, and logical reasoning. Serotonin is the key to a balanced, healthy mental state. Serotonin also plays a role in promoting peristalsis (rhythmic contractions during digestion) in the intestines.
Some of the serotonin in the brain is converted to melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone associated with the maintenance of circadian rhythms (sleep/wake cycles) in humans. During the evening and night, during the day, higher levels of serotonin are converted to melatonin.
Oral 5-HTP is a more direct way to improve 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HT). In the pineal cells of the brain, tryptophan catalyzes the production of melatonin, which affects sleep. 5-HT increases REM sleep (usually by about 25%) and lengthens stages 3 and 4 of deep sleep, but does not lengthen total sleep time. The sleep stages that are shortened in duration are stages 1 and 2 of non-REM sleep (which are less important sleep stages).
Supplementing melatonin from outside the body can keep the melatonin level in the body in a youthful state, adjust and restore the circadian rhythm, which not only can deepen the sleep and improve the quality of sleep, but also, more importantly, can improve the whole body's functioning state, improve the quality of life, and slow down the aging process. Melatonin is a hormone that induces natural sleep in the human body, overcoming sleep disorders and improving sleep quality by regulating one's natural sleep.
The biggest difference between it and other sleeping pills is that melatonin is not addictive and has no significant side effects. At night before going to bed orally 1 to 2 tablets (containing melatonin about 1.5 to 3 mg), usually within 20 to 30 minutes to produce sleepiness, the morning after dawn melatonin automatic failure, and wake up no fatigue and drowsiness want to wake up the feeling.
